Practical Application

Practical Application

  1. Inventory invasive species on site (See Site: Audit).
  2. Determine goals for dealing with invasive species—where should they be eliminated or prohibited; where managed; where left alone?
  3. Identify the preferred control or management options for each target species, including biological, mechanical, or chemical.
  4. Create a management plan that identifies treatments based on different landscape zones and their associated goals.
  5. Prevent new invasive species from getting established by eliminating new invasions immediately and planting native species in their place.

Cut back large, undesired plants at the base instead of pulling them by the roots, which can harm root systems of surrounding species and disturb soil.
